Safety Sign Symbols have changed...
As a leading supplier of
health and safety signs, the last
12 months have seen big changes to the symbols used on large portions of our
range of safety signs
If you are one of our regular clients, you will have noticed
changes to the symbols and many of the
safety signs we supply. This is due to ISO 7010.
What is ISO 7010
(European Normative) Safety Sign Legislation?
Back in 2003 ISO 7010 was introduced. This was a standard aimed at creating
uniformity with the safety symbols used on safety signs throughout Europe.
Essentially this was a recommended practice allowing Britain to continue to utilise it’s
own standard of BS 5499.
It was perfectly acceptable to use safety signs conforming
to BS 5499 or ISO 7010, with the only stipulation being that the two standards
should not be used in the same workplace.
From January 2013 ISO 7010 will be written in to European
Law meaning that the UK
and other members will have to adopt this new standard EN 7010

phased it in through planned phases over the last 12 months.
From 1
st January 2013 all
Safety Signs and Labels
purchased from us will comply with EN 7010
Why are the symbols
changing?
There is massive diversity throughout through Europe with regards to language, literacy and
ability. EN 7010 is an international
standard for Safety Signs that aims to be understood by everyone, regardless or
language or disability.
Essentially this means that all sign symbols will be uniform
throughout Europe.
Do I need to do
anything?
Nothing at all! ISO
7010 applies to all workplaces and premises and the best Health and Safety
advice is to ensure your Safety Signs comply with latest legislation. As a customer of
